Free Kururi Line and sweet potato digging day for first- and second-graders
Families will ride the Kururi Line between Kisarazu and Gion and dig sweet potatoes at Obitsuzeki Park on October 31. The free event is for first- and second-graders living in Kisarazu, Kimitsu or Sodegaura, with applications due September 28.
A Kururi Line ride and sweet potato digging
The JR Kururi Line Revitalization Council will hold a family event combining a train ride and sweet potato digging on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Participants will make a round trip between JR Kisarazu and Gion stations and dig sweet potatoes at Obitsuzeki Park. The program runs from about 8:40 a.m. until noon. The station-to-park portion is on foot.
For first- and second-graders in three cities
The event is open to first- and second-grade elementary school children living in Kisarazu, Kimitsu or Sodegaura and their guardians. Capacity is 15 families, or 30 people, and participation is free. A lottery will be held if applications exceed capacity. Bring work gloves, a drink, towel and bag for the potatoes, and wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty. A limited number of shovels will be available.

Applications must be submitted through the online form by Monday, September 28. The event will be canceled in rain with no alternate date. Check the official notices from Sodegaura City or Kimitsu City for eligibility, supplies and application details.
