Kimitsu Municipal Kururi Castle Museum

A museum with free admission, located just in front of the main keep of Kururi Castle (久留里城), on the site of the second bailey. Exhibits include local archaeological finds, samurai-related materials such as swords and matchlock guns, and well-digging tools used in the Kazusa-bori (上総掘り) method. The free parking lot (130 cars) is at the foot of the hill, and from there it is an uphill walk of about 15 to 20 minutes to the museum. It takes about 5 more minutes to reach the keep, so comfortable walking shoes are a good idea. Since the keep was damaged in the May 2023 earthquake, its interior has remained closed and only the exterior can be viewed, so a visit is more about the museum exhibits and strolling the castle ruins than touring inside the castle.

Kimitsu Municipal Kururi Castle Ruins Museum is in Kururi, Kimitsu. It is open from 9:00 to 16:30, but closes on Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a public holiday, the day after public holidays, and over the New Year period, so an itinerary including Monday may need reordering.
